Abstract

The combination of molecular and phenotypic data has been widely implemented to study biodiversity. This funding proposal aims to support the visit of Prof. Dr. Ana Carnaval (City University of New York, USA) to the Biology Department at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters at Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo. A leading reference in Evolution, Ecology, Biogeography and Climate Change research, Prof. Carnaval will lead a graduate-level course entitled "Integrating molecular and phenotypic data to understand biodiversity" that aims to present cutting -dge approaches and recent concepts in Evolutionary Biology, focusing on natural selection and adaptation, as well as the molecular and functional bases of phenotypic diversification. Activities during this visit will also include presentation of a seminar at the Department's weekly seminars, a regular activity attended by professors, undergraduate and post-graduate students. Additionally, the visit will also include interactions with students and post-docs of the research group led by Prof. Dr. Tiana Kohlsdorf, who also coordinates a Thematic FAPESP Project entitled "Evo-Devo in Dynamic Environments: Implications of Climatic Changes in the Biodiversity" (FAPESP 2020/14780-1). Therefore, the visit by Prof. Dr. Carnaval will benefit the academic community at FFCLRP-USP, by presenting and discussing cutting-edge approaches and concepts to the study of biodiversity, as well as tightening collaborative actions between research groups in Brazil and US.
