Strengthening the Technological Infrastructure of CNPEM: Acquisition of SAN and Core Switches for Advancing Scientific Research

Abstract

This Institutional Technical Reserve project of CNPEM for the year 2024 aims to continue the modernization of the Center's technological infrastructure, which is essential for maintaining and expanding research capacities. The primary focus is the acquisition of high-capacity core switches and SAN switches, which are crucial for ensuring high-speed connections, superior performance, and efficient data traffic segregation, vital for secure storage and centralized management of research data.CNPEM's current infrastructure, while robust, faces challenges due to equipment obsolescence, with warranties expiring in 2024. The proposed modernization will enable support for speeds of up to 100GB, aligning with the growing demands of the research conducted at CNPEM's four National Laboratories. These new devices will ensure the continuity of research operations without significant interruptions, protect data integrity, and guarantee modular expansion capacity for the future. In addition to the equipment, the project includes the contracting of technical support and maintenance services to ensure the continuous operation of the systems. The Host Institution is committed to covering any additional costs associated with importing this equipment, ensuring the full execution of the project and the achievement of expected outcomes. This investment is essential for CNPEM to continue providing advanced and reliable support for the highly complex research conducted at its facilities, benefiting researchers from various fields of knowledge and consolidating the Center as a national and international reference in scientific and technological innovation.
