Abstract

The covid-19 pandemic brought a new perspective on health, showing that in a short period of time and with multidisciplinary approaches, it is possible to develop more effective technologies to enable more effective procedures and/or inputs to be used in the laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases. This same type of strategy can be adopted to solve other major emerging or even endemic health problems that affect farm animals. In this sense, it is clear and urgent the need to create the Center for Technological Platform in Animal Health, headquartered at the Biological Institute, in partnership with the Animal Health Defense Service, São Paulo state universities, in addition to international institutions of reference to the Organization World Animal Health (OIE), for a Single Health, aiming to contribute to a more effective control of sanitary problems affecting the productive sector. This proposal aims to define the main biomarkers to be applied in the development and standardization of rapid tests for diagnosing highly relevant infectious diseases in two chains of the livestock sector (cattle and poultry). Through in silico and laboratory approaches, the characterization of biomarkers will be directed towards viral diseases in cattle (blue tongue) and birds (avian influenza, Newcastle disease, infectious avian laryngotracheitis, infectious bronchitis in chickens and avian metapneumovirus). The standardization and validation of the tests will use samples from the Biological Materials Collection of the Biological Institute and reference materials from national and international institutions. The cost-benefit analysis of the proposed tests will also be determined, as well as the assessment of the feasibility of applying the methods with the Official Service of the State of São Paulo. The proposed Center will have the Partnership Committee to prospect and enable the inclusion of companies and startups in the private sector, bringing the contribution of investments that will ensure the production and standardization of the tests developed on a larger scale. The Communication Committee will contribute to the dissemination of the results achieved by the Platform and the training of human resources to act in the control and prevention of the sanitary problems. In this way, it is intended that this Center can respond to the relevant sanitary demands of the productive sector of the national livestock sector, contributing to the surveillance and control of infectious diseases for cattle and poultry in our country.
