EMU: acquisition of a multiusuary equipment for electric field-assisted sintering under pressure

Abstract

The Project refers to the acquisition of a multi-usuary equipment for sintering functional ceramic materials by the spark plasma sintering technique. That technique allows for sintering/densifying ceramic pieces by fast heating under pressure. The main Advantage of that sintering technique is the possibility of obtaining dense samples without grain growth that usually occurs in conventional resistive furnaces, producing consequently ceramic pieces with enhanced mechanical properties. The equipment will be offered to researchers of the Energy and Nuclear Research Institute, of the Center for Development of Ceramic Materials, and other institutions and universities of the State of S. Paulo. The Project applies also to provide the equipment with different models of graphite dies. (AU)
