EMU: Acquisition of compressor, chiller and gas for helium liquefying system in the Cryogenic Workshop of IFGW

Abstract

The Cryogenic Workshop from IFGW is one of the three cryogenic facilities in the São Paulo State universities. It is responsible for providing liquid helium for all the laboratory infrastructure of IFGW where several multiuser facilities from FAPESP have been installed. This proposal has two main objectives. The first one is to complement a new helium liquefying system funded by FINEP, but which needs a new helium compressor and a chiller to operate. The second one is to request funds to acquire helium gas for liquefaction and mitigate the effects of the unprecedented increase in the helium price, which has caused a severe unbalance in the financial resources of our research groups. This project will guarantee in the years to come the continuity and development of high impact material science, quantum information and photonics experiments which have been performed by traditional and internationally recognized groups from IFGW and other research institutions.
