Nurses' Experience and Self-Efficacy in Palliative Care in the Face of Congenital Heart Disease Diagnosis: A Mixed Methods Study

Abstract

Objective: To explore nurses' experiences in assisting parental needs following a congenital heart disease diagnosis during the pregnancy-puerperal period and to analyze self-efficacy in relation to palliative care practice. Method: A mixed-methods study with a concurrent triangulation strategy. The data will be given equal weight (QUAN+QUAL). Eligible participants will be nurses working in high-risk pregnancy clinics, obstetric centers, and neonatal intermediate and intensive care units, recruited through social media outreach and the "snowball sampling" technique. In order to include nurses from across the country, data collection will be conducted remotely. Initially, a semi-structured interview will be conducted, guided by the central question: "Tell me about your experience assisting parents in the face of a congenital heart disease diagnosis." The Palliative Care Self-Efficacy Scale (SEPC-BR) will then be administered. Regarding data analysis, qualitative empirical material will be inductively analyzed through reflective thematic analysis. Quantitative data will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. All ethical guidelines for research with human subjects will be strictly followed. (AU)
