Abstract

This visiting proposal aims to host Professor Phillip F. Joseph, a leading expert in acoustic wave propagation and signal processing, to strengthen collaborative research and academic exchange at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Unesp-FEIS. The focus will be on advancing matched field processing techniques for structural health monitoring of buried pipelines, enabling the non-invasive detection and localization of leaks or structural anomalies through the comparison of simulated and measured wavefields using sensors on the surface of the ground. The collaboration will address key challenges such as wave propagation in complex soil environments and optimal sensor placement. In addition to research activities, Professor Joseph will contribute through lectures, mentoring, and outreach initiatives, fostering long-term impact on both the postgraduate program and industry partnerships.
