Abstract

This research project proposes a work of continuity of translations and critical studies on the work of Arthur Schopenhauer, having as its object the lectures given by the author at the University of Berlin in 1820. After the translation and publication, by Editora da Unesp, of Arthur Schopenhauer's works "On the Freedom of the Will" (2021) and "Metaphysics of Customs" (2024), I propose, in this project, the translation and critical study of the first lecture given by Schopenhauer at the University of Berlin in 1820, entitled Theorie des gesamten Vorstellens, Denkens und Erkennens. The Unesp publishing house has already published the lectures "Vol. 2 - Metaphysics of Nature (translated by Jair Barbosa, Vol. 3 Metaphysics of Beauty (translated by Jair Barbosa) and Vol. 4 Metaphysics of Morals (translated by me), with only the first and longest of Schopenhauer's Vorlesungen remaining. The translations I have authored, cited above, have had a good impact among Brazilian researchers, a repercussion attested to at our Schopenhauer GT congress (ANPOF), by the reviews published in the Voluntas1 journal and by the number of citations in academic works. Schopenhauer's lectures at the University of Berlin are already considered by the entire world research community as an indispensable reference for the critical establishment of the thought of the philosopher from Frankfurt.
