Abstract

The objective is to analyze productive transformations and their relations to the workers' health in the metalworking sector at Campinas region, São Paulo, Brazil. Productive transformations are understood in their technological, social, political and economic dimensions, with emphasis on the industrial sector and, within it, the metalworking branch. Despite the social and scientific relevance of the topic, there is a low level of scientific production related to the impacts of productive transformations on the workers' health. The theoretical-methodological framework is constituted by the 'historical and social determination of health-disease', specifically the theory of workforce's wear and reproduction. The methodology can be classified as an exploratory 'case study'. The methodological procedures foresee fieldwork with the collection of qualitative and quantitative data, including documentary research, open interviews and participant observation. The quantitative data will be systematized in a database and analyzed based on descriptive statistics. The qualitative data will be systematized and analyzed using reflective 'thematic analysis'. The aim is to achieve direct and indirect results with the development of the research, ultimately contributing to the promotion of workers' health in the metalworking sector. The results are expected to be disclosed directly to the research participants, as well as through scientific publications. The research schedule establishes the activities to be carried out over a two-year period. The execution of the research is budgeted with financial support resources from the São Paulo Research Foundation - FAPESP through Regular Research Grants. (AU)
