Abstract

The Petroleum Geology Program at the Institute of Geosciences (IGeo/UFRGS), developed in partnership with the National Petroleum Agency (UFRGS/ANP-PRH14.1 Agreement), is designed for the formation of professionals able to work in the new scenario of oil exploration in Brazil. The Program includes activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with opportunities within research projects in the areas of stratigraphy and basin analysis, geochronology, stratigraphic and diagenetic characterization of reservoirs, and organic petrology. The Program offers full scholarships at undergraduate, masters and doctorate levels and a complete infrastructure (up-to-date specialized library with a large collection, geochemical, organochemical, palynological, micropaleontological, microprobe, scanning microscopy and isotopic laboratories, as well as computer resources and a fleet of vehicles for fieldwork). The faculty is constituted entirely of doctors with recognized national and international achievements, many of them being National Research Council (CNPq) researchers and coordinators of research projects in collaboration with the productive sector and with research institutions in Brazil and abroad. All supervisors participate in IGeo Postgraduate Program in Geosciences, which has the maximum score (7) in the Ministry of Education Postgraduate Coordination (CAPES) evaluation. (AU)
