Exploration and production of crude oil, natural gas and renewable energies

Abstract

In 2019, UFES, through the Department of Engineering and Technology (Det/Ceunes), with the participation of the Postgraduate Program in Chemistry (PPGQUI/CCE), approved the proposal "Human Resources Program in Oil and Natural Gas", identified as PRH-ANP 53.1. Due to its good performance in terms of filling vacancies and relevant technical-scientific production, in 2025 the program was considered eligible for direct selection in Public Call No. 01/2025/PRH-ANP (Board Resolution No. 06/2025 of 3/Jan/2025).Thus, in the new proposal, the scope is broadened, proposing, in addition to the oil and gas theme, the development of research in line with the guidelines established by the National Energy Policy Council, namely: application of hydrogen as an energy vector, photovoltaic solar energy, wind energy, nanomaterials and pipeline technology. In line with the new scope, a new title is used, "Exploration and Production of Oil, Natural Gas and Renewable Energies", which better translates what is to be developed in the coming years.Another important change is the participation of the Postgraduate Program in Energy (PPGEN), located at the Ufes - São Mateus Campus. The PPGEN, with its Masters and Doctoral courses and experience in post-doctoral internships, will make a significant contribution to the exploitation of issues related to less polluting energy sources. The PPGEN / PRH-ANP faculty is made up of professors from the two undergraduate programs included in the proposal, Petroleum Engineering and Chemical Engineering. The Postgraduate Program in Chemistry, at the Campus of UFES Goiabeiras in Vitória, has already been following PRH-ANP 53.1 since 2020, and now continues to participate in this new cycle with 3 professors. In total, the new proposal is made up of 13 (thirteen) teachers, most of whom work in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, only 02 of whom limit their activities to undergraduate programs. The guiding criteria for the composition of the teaching staff are the alignment with the scope of the program and the relevant technical and scientific production. These indices are detailed in items "7. List of projects financed with funds from the RD&I clause of the ANP", "8. List of technical services provided in the sector" and "9. Technical production", which make up the project.UFES, which is an institution of excellence in ES, has important physical and administrative infrastructure to support the project.Another scenario that should be highlighted is that the northern region of ES, where the proposal is located, has had the onshore and offshore oil and gas industry as its main activity for several decades. A number of small and medium-sized companies operate hydrocarbon fields acquired by Petrobras during its divestiture process, with significant opportunities for the courses associated with this proposal. The region is also subject to ornamental rock extraction, the tailings of which are the subject of study in PRH-ANP 53.1, and rock salt, which is a new frontier for investment in this region. In terms of alternative energy sources, there is wind and solar potential that has been identified as promising for investment. On the other hand, as the project coordinator will be retained, there is an important gain in management capacity, given the experience accumulated since 2019, when the previous proposal was prepared and approved. And also, in the course of these 5 years, in dealing with reports, research topics, use of the bank fee, deadlines, publications and other issues. All this during the first FINEP management and then with the FAPESP management, a migration that took place in July 2024 through the SAGE platform - Management Support System. With these changes and the experience that has facilitated the progress of the project, the following objectives and expected results are presented below. (AU)
