Abstract
The rich mathematical framework that addresses the challenges of stable solutions to ill-posed inverse problems can find a fertile ground for development in the well-situated and dynamic city of São Carlos. With the aim of seizing this opportunity, the following proposal outlines an initiative to foster the creation of a research group in nonlinear optimization and inverse problems, thereby promoting the USP campus in this city as a hub of excellence in applied mathematics. The scientific foundation of the proposal is built on three pillars: (i) theory and practice of inverse problems, (ii) image reconstruction, and (iii) non-smooth and/or bilevel convex nonlinear optimization.
