Abstract

This project is characterized by the multiplicity of actions around a central theme: the genetic improvement of maize (Zea mays). Various lines of research are presented, covering aspects of improvement methodologies, introgression and exploration of new germplasmas, synthesis and improvement of populations, nutritional quality and resistance to stresses, particularly pests and diseases. Essentially this involves the introduction of germplasmas from the USA, Argentina, Mexico and elsewhere with a view to increasing the genetic variability in the solution of specific problems. It also involves evaluations of germplasm in Brazil, synthesis and improvement of new populations, studies of genetic based on crossings. (AU)
