Abstract

The proposed project aims to develop and perfect a methodology for geotechnical mapping geared to Brazilian conditions, with emphasis on some specific themes, such as erosion, expansion and movement of mass. For the development of this work some areas were selected where these phenomena are evident and worthy of attention, due to the consequences, sometimes catastrophic, emanating from them. It is intended, with this research, to improve the knowledge on the influencing attributes of the physical environment and on the associated processes and thus provide support for the development of Geotechnical Cartography in similar geological regions. The areas selected for study are: the region of Franca-SP and Casa Branca-SP, (erosive problems), the region of Piracicaba-SP (problems of expansion and degradation of sedimentary rocks), the region of Campinas-SP (area with several types of problem due to the intense occupation and to the geological environment) and the region of Campos do Jordão (problems of movement of masses).
