Abstract

This concerns the broadening of the activities of the theory group of the Computer Science Department, through the creation of a Laboratory for combinatory algorithms. In the first phase the efforts will concentrate on the following areas of activity: finite automates, vocabularies and languages (verification and spelling guidance, text compression, genetic sequencing, analysis of vocabularies); geometric and visualization algorithms (pattern matching, image visualization, even of proteins); graph algorithms (parallelism, interval and biosequence graphs); biosequences (comparison, sequencing, phylogenetic trees, protein folding).
