Abstract

The objective is to study non-linear optical processes, with a view to application in optical communications. The materials of interest are glasses, doped glasses with semiconductor and thin films of GaAs and its alloys. The glasses will be manufactured in the proposing group itself, the III-V alloys in the CPqD of Telebrás. The emphasis of the project is in the characterization of the samples, from the point of view of response time (dynamic) and intensity of non-linearity. The physical processes involved are: quantum confinement, 'band filling', excitonic absorption, AC stark effect, stark effect quantumly confined, phase automodulation, scattering through carriers, scattering through valleys.
