Abstract
The present project aims to test the viability and to evaluate the effectiveness of a preventive intervention for abusive adolescent drinking. It is a harm reduction program similar to BASICS - Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students, the program developed at University of Washington, Seattle. Working together with some teachers of a public high school of the city of São Paulo it is intended to adapt the BASICS methodology for its use with Brazilian high school students, taking in account our cultural differences as well as the low availability of human and material resources in our high schools. The results of the program will be quantitatively evaluated with the application of questionnaires at the beginning of the work (pre-testing) and after 6 months, 1 and 2 years (follow-ups) after the intervention. A qualitative evaluation will also be done by interviewing the participants at the same moments. The expected result is a reduction in alcohol related problems. (AU)
