Abstract

Cardiac surgery (CC) with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) may result in leucocyte activation and Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS). The lungs are specially involved in SIRS and secondary pulmonary alterations are related to increased postoperative morbimortality. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of leucocyte depletion, in arterial line of CPB circuit, on the inflammatory response and pulmonary function in patients undergoing CC with CPB. Thirty patients submitted to coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), with CPB, will be allocated in two groups, with or without leucocyte filter in arterial line of CPB circuit. The two groups will be compared (ANOVA) concerning proinflamatory response markers (elastase, mieloperoxidase, complement compound, exhaled nitric oxide and interleukins) and the pulmonary function (spirometry, chest CT to evaluate extravascular lung water and atelectasis , PaO2/FiO2 relationship, O-2 alveoli-arterial gradient and pulmonary shunt).
