Abstract

One of the main alteration for the laryngeal function is the glottic insufficience that may be due to vocal atrophy, paresis, fibrosis, sulcus and arching. These situations can lead to aspiration and dysphonia. There are many techniques of correction of vocal insufficience among then the medialization and the injection of substances to increase the glottic volume. The fascia lata graft has been used for decades in otological and plastic surgeries. It presents tissue consistence similar to the collagen and low metabolic level. Till today, there is no consensus in relation to better material to be used as graft material in larynx. The use of fascia lata has shown promissory results, although few studies have been reported. Aim: To evaluate the histological response to the garft of autologue fascia lata into the vocal muscle of rabbits. Material and Method: 20 New Zealand male rabbits, of around 2500 kg, will be studied. The animals will be followed for one to three months, so we can have information about the differences due to the follow-up time. At the final of each period, the animals will be sacrificed under anesthesia and the larynxes removed for histological exam. The fascia lata to be inserted will be removed from the tight of the own rabbit right before the insertion, thet will be done through laringofissure. The contralateral vocal fold will be the control.
