Abstract

The human vocal fold consists of several layers that possess distinct physical characteristics. The most important layer is the lamina propria related with vibration and phonation. Located between the surface epithelium and vocalis muscle has an extracellular matrix with consists of elastic and collagen fibers, proteoglycans and glycoproteins. Versican is a large aggregating proteoglycan present in the lamina propria. The distribution of collagen in the human vocal fold was described for many autors but without an immunohistochemical analysis. The objective of the study is show the specific type of collagen fibers and the Versican proteoglycan presents in the matrix extracellular with an immunohistochemical analysis. Methods: Analysis of the lamina propria of the vocal fold obtained from human cadavers. Age ranging from fetal to adult, both sex without race distinction. Specific antibodys for collagen type 1 and 3 and for Versican will be used. The samples will be observed under a standard light microscope using optical polarization (AU)
