Abstract

Class II is a malocclusion characterized by a sagittal discrepancy between maxilla and mandible. The Klammt's Open Elastic Activator is used for treatment of the Class II malocclusion with mandible retrusion or mandibular growth deficiency. This appliance is indicated for the interceptive treatment in the mixed dentition phase or puberal growth period. The purpose of this study will be to describe the orthodontic and orthopedic effects of the Klammt appliance therapy. Forty patients (males and females) between 7 and 10 years of age with Class II division 1 malocclusions will be equally distribute into control (n=20) and experimental (n=20) groups and will be followed longitudinally for approximately 1 year. Mandibular and maxillar growth and dental changes will be evaluated cephalometrically through linear and angular measurements that will be obtained through the software Dentofacial Planner Plus 2,01. The data will be analyzed by Descriptive Statistics and Students t Test will be used to compare jaw growth and dental changes. (AU)
