Abstract

The proposal of this research project to reflect upon one of the most central constituent elements of contemporary reality - the city - from Urban Geography and Social History. It is at the confluence between the guiding categories of time and space that the various subjects responsible for the production of urban space - explained through socio-spatial segregation, diffuse urbanization, and public-private space relations - are to emerge. The research project approach will be prioritized in the socio-spatial practices of different social subjects - those who live in closed and / or guarded spaces and those who live outside them - considering the multi-dimensional and multi-scale character that this analysis requires. Considering the tendency to analyze this problem in metropolitan spaces, we intend to concentrate on the medium-sized cities of the interior of São Paulo, which play intermediate and / or regional roles in urban network as a whole.
