Genetic, morphological and biological diversity of Pratylenchus coffeae and P. brachyurus populations from coffee plantations from Sao Paulo State, Brazil

Abstract

Root-lesion nematodes, Pratylenchus coffeae and P. brachyurus, are limiting to coffee production in many countries, including Brazil. Recently, morphological, biological and genetic variability between different populations of these species have been observed. In order to evaluate this variability, field populations of these nematodes from coffee plantations from Sao Paulo state will be characterized by PCR and sequencing of ITS-1 and D2/D3 regions from ribosomal DNA (rDNA), and COI from mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). In addition, morphometric studies under light microscope, and morphological observations under scanning electron microscope will be made. Also, the host reaction and reproduction factor will be assessed. If any population proves to be a new species, its description will be reported. (AU)
