Abstract

Microgasturbines appear as viable options in energy distributed generation sceneries, in which the energy is produced locally and eventually sold to the energy grid. This promotes the use of alternative energy generating systems and results in lower installation and operational costs. This project resumes a series of previous studies already developed at the Laboratório de Engenharia Térmica e Ambiental (LETE) of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, that laid the basis for the conception of a prototype of a low cost gas turbine energy generator. The aim of this project is to conceive, design and build the power gas turbine and its regenerative unit that will increase the thermal efficiency of the system as a whole; the power generated will drive a properly selected electric generator. A new combustion chamber will also be designed in order to attain a more efficient and enduring system. From a technical and scientific point of view, this project promotes progress in two fields, namely, the design of combustion chambers and rotor systems for micro gas turbines, which have been little explored in Brazilian research centres up to now. An amount of R$ 59.300,00 is necessary in order to develop the first prototype of the micro gas turbine energy generating system, scheduled to be ready in 18 months. (AU)
