Abstract

The goal of the study is to observe the influence of the diameter and preparation of the pilot hole on pedicle screw pullout resistance. The experimental model comprises the confection of the pilot hole in the vertebrae, measurement of the insertion torque and accomplishment of the pullout test. The study will be conduct in two stages. At the first stage the pilot holes will be done with drills or probe (sharp and blunt tip), the screws will be inserted in the bovine and human vertebrae, followed by the pullout test. At the second stage of the study it will be used screws of variable internal diameter and conical form. The pilot holes will be performed through different diameters, using drills and probes. The screws will be inserted into lumbar vertebrae pedicles of pigs. The insertion torque will be measured and pullout test performed. The results of the mechanical assays will be compared by the statistical analysis. (AU)
