Heavy metals mobility on the solid fraction of a tropept that received addition of a residue resulted from the shredding of auto scrap

Abstract

Residue application on agriculture as a source of nutrients has been a commom practice for many years. However, its misuse can lead to soil contamination which may turn it unsuitable for cropping. The present work has the objective of evaluate heavy metal solubility and mobility on a soil that received addition of a residue resulted from auto schredding process, during its acidification to the original pH. Soil samples will be collected from the contaminated area and acidified to pH 6.6; 6.0 and 5.4 with nitric acid. Three experiments will be realized. The first one will determine the amounts of heavy metals extrated by the DTPA at pH 7.3; the second one will determine the amounts of heavy metals solubilized and free (not complexed) in the saturation extract; and the third one will evaluate, through a sequential fractionation of the solid phase, the heavy metals mobility through the phases as the soil is acidified to its original pH (5.4).
