Abstract

The use of sport horses is an increasing practice in our country and in the world. Consequently, the horses are seen as athletes and submitted to training protocols that aim to maximize the improvement of its performance. Great emphasis has been given to the evaluation of the training by means of the determination of the evolution of the anaerobic threshold (AT); which can be determined by measuring the blood lactate concentrations. This method has been largely used in the human being exercise physiology, and now becoming a usable tool in equestrian sports. Fifteen horses will be submitted to the tests in a high performance treadmill. Three different methodologies for the estimate of the AT in equines using the blood lactate concentration will be compared: the determination of Individual Anaerobic Threshold (LAI), the V4 and the Minimum Lactate Point (Lacmin). The results gotten with these methodologies will be compared with the value obtained with the method of the Maximum Lactate Steady State. Additionally, the blood glucose also will be evaluated and its point of inflection will be compared with AT obtained with the lactate methods. ANOVA will be done and the Tukey test will be used to compare the moments inside the methodologies and the AT obtained with the different methodologies. (AU)
