Maltdextrin in substitution of starch in equine diet

Abstract

The present research will involve 4 female young horses at age between 20 and 24 months and the weigh of the 400 kgs. They will receive alternate 4 isoenergetic and isoproteic diets which will be supplied in equal parts 2 times per day, the diet variation will be the replacement of the starch extract of the corn by maltodextrin. The diet 1 will be the control group constituted by concentrated and starch. The diet 2 will be concentrated with the replacement of the starch by maltodextrin in 33,3%. The diet 3 will be concentrated with the replacement of the starch by maltodextrin in 66,6% and diet 4 will be concentrated with the replacement of the starch by maltodextrin in 100%. The experiment consists on 4 periods of 11 days each. Fecal collection will be done during 24 hours for 3 days, in order to analyze organic matters, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, brute fiber, brute protein, starch, mineral matter, etereo extract and pH. In the first day of the fecal collection, blood collection will also be carried out 30 minutes before and 30,90,150 and 210 minutes after supplying the concentrated in order to have glucose and insulinemic plasmatic dosages. It will be one statistical analysis at latin square 4x4 (four animals, four treatments), and repeated time measurements. (AU)
