Abstract

In this project, it is aimed to make the complete description of new minerals from Brazil, in agreement with the rules of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA), with submission of proposals to the IMA Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (CNMNC). The study of minerals described for the first time in Brazil and their paragenesis seeks to increase the current mineralogical knowledge, through researches that involve, also, the determination of crystal structures (resolution by the direct method or refinement by the Rietveld method) and the resolution of mineralogical nomenclature problems. It is still intended to contribute with studies regarding the relationship among these minerals and their associations (assemblages, rocks, genesis, paragenesis). Synthesis experiments will also be made. For execution of this project, samples already collected in several Brazilian occurrences will be used, as well as type-specimens, some already obtained and other to be obtained by exchange with museums, and samples obtained during new field works in Brazilian occurrences. The main new minerals-bearing rocks, already partially studied in previous stages, are granitic pegmatites from several places of Minas Gerais, besides the Cajati carbonatite, in São Paulo. Researches of Scientific Initiation, Technical Training, Master's degree, Doctorship's degree and Post- Doctorship related to the subject of this project should happen. (AU)
