Abstract
This research project aims to analyse the influence of kinship and dominance relationships on the social structure and the mating system of primates. In addition, the sexual dispersal pattern will be described, since it influences kin relationships within the social group. In order to do that, we intend to: 1) analyse the sexual dispersal pattern of a wild population of Cebus nigritus through genetic data; 2) analyse the relationship between male dominance and reproductive success in two social groups of Cebus nigritus; 3) examine the effect of kinship on the social relationships, and, consequently, on the social structure. This research will be conducted at Carlos Botelho State Park (PECB), in the municipality of São Miguel Arcanjo, in southwest of São Paulo State. Scan sampling, focal animal and all occurrences methods will be conducted to record the behaviour of C. nigritus in the study groups. To access to the kin relationships, paternity and maternity among the individuals, microsatellite markers will be employed and amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). (AU)
