Abstract

Colorectal cancer represents a major cause of death from cancer worldwide. Numerous genetic alterations have been associated with increased risk and aggressiveness of the cancer. The genes of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase are being studied act in cell cycle regulation, in tumor growth factor and production of prostaglandins. There are three isoforms of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, and COX-2 and 5 - lipoxygenase those most involved in the process of tumor development and particularly colorectal cancer. The objective of this study is to evaluate the polymorphism of cyclooxygenase -2 promoter region 765G> C and 5-lipoxygenase (1708 G> A) in samples of peripheral blood and tumor tissue of patients with colorectal cancer.
