Automatic detection of the asymmetry in mammograms through of the breast density

Abstract

Early detection of breast cancer is relevant to the woman's life, however, is low hit in the diagnosis should be complemented by approximately 60% of cases by biopsies. The method we want to develop should increase the sensitivity of detection of cancer, offering the radiologist a tool capable of evaluating a further characteristic of malignancy, the asymmetry of the breasts. We will implement the algorithm that calculates the percentage of glandular tissue versus breast adipose tissues of left and right in the same patient screening mammogram, or acquired at different times, developed in the doctorate. We will classify according to the presence or absence of asymmetry between the bilateral images of breast. The results will be analyzed and presented through tables, graphs, statistical analysis and ROC curves (Receiver Operating Characteristic). (AU)
