Sustainable use and conservation of bees as pollinators in Brazil: the use of pollen as a source of ecological information

Abstract

The development of this proposal, in addition to its importance for the PG in Entomology, providing improvement and consolidation of several lines of research, produce, also provide important technological advances necessary for the use of bee species on a large scale as more a tool available for the conservation of natural areas and our agriculture. Among the pollinators, bees are among the most important in natural ecosystems and agro-ecosystems, especially the ease in their management, in addition to being specialized for many types of flowers and there are many species worldwide. The identification of the plants that keep the bees became very important for the development of management plans and conservation in areas of native vegetation and cultivated areas, which could minimize the impacts caused by human actions. More than simply drawing up lists of species viewed and / or pollinated, it is also necessary to analyze the patterns of use of plants in the diet of the bees in a spatio-temporal scale. In this context, the pollen analysis is an important tool to define quantitative and qualitative parameters that may help: in assessing the extent of their feeding bees in determining patterns of choice of key species and understanding the networks of interactions that take place between bee species and plant species in a given ecosystem. The organization of such data from such techniques and parameters for network analysis of interactions can help to characterize some of the properties of these interactions and their consequences for conservation actions bees and other pollinators.
