Abstract

This work aims to objective assessment of video signals, in spatial and time domains for SDTV (Standard Television), HDTV (High Definition Television) and portable reception. Particularly, the video compression systems (called codecs) will be treated to according to H.264 standard, adopted in SBTVD (Sistema Brasileiro de TV Digital). Assessment methods will be covered "In the Laboratory" and especially "In Service" to allow applications in real time environments. The main valuation techniques in the literature will be tested and will be compared with subjective bases. It is planned to use a subjective database, encompassing various types of video sequence and allowing the weighting coefficients. This weighting may be achieved through training technics. Finally, we intend to study the feasibility of the proposal and delays in assessment systems in real time by return channels. (AU)
