Abstract

This study aims to continue a series of research focused on memory and emotion (Neufeld, Brust & Stein, 2008a; Neufeld, Brust & Stein, 2008b). False memories are recollections of events that never happened in fact, and the current articles has showed consistently that our memory is susceptible to distortion even when the event carries a high emotional level. This work aims to compare participating adults carriers of Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) and participating adults who do not have these symptoms, investigating the effect that emotion has in the memory performance, for an event witnessed. For the development of this work, the materials that will be used are a target material, a subjective emotional scale, and a self-applied memory test. An electrical skin conductance appliance will be used to measure the physiological-emotional response during the presentation of the target material. The study will have 120 participants. These participants will be 60 with TAS and 60 without TAS, and half of each will receive the emotionally loaded narrative version and the other half the emotionally neutral narrative. After the presentation of the target material, the participants will be asked to fill up the subjective emotional scale; afterwards they will undergo a distractive activity followed by the memory test. The information collected will be stored in a data bank elaborated especially for this purpose and uni-variance and multi-variance analysis will be carried out. (AU)
