Abstract

Brazilian companies have been pressured to reach new performance patterns that would allow their survival in domestic market and in some cases, expand their international sales. In this context, competition for manufacturing companies located in different countries depends on several aspects related to domestic and foreign markets in which they operate. The High Performance Manufacturing (HPM)research project addresses this issue. This project involves researchers from eight countries and it is organized through an international cooperation network with focus on Production and Operations, which is a key area for business competition. The access and analysis of databases may orientate efforts to improve Brazilian companies' performance based on international patterns. This project has two central objectives. The first one is academic, since it allows researchers and students from Fundacao Getulio Vargas (FGV-EAESP) to participate actively in international research networks. The second objective refers to the applied orientation of this proposal, since the interaction between academics and practitioners may lead to the application of advanced practices in Operations Management and consequently improving operational performance.
