Abstract

We are forwarding to FAPESP the Thematic project which aims to contribute to knowledge of the host-pathogen relationship biology and evasion mechanisms of the spirochete Leptospira combining genomic information and experimental studies. The results to be obtained should/can be used for the purpose of developing new forms of intervention of the disease caused by this microorganism, mainly related to the development of vaccines and diagnostics. For this, the project will be comprised of the following sub-projects: 1) identification of Leptospira interrogans Serovar Copenhageni adhesins and antigens at genomic level (Coord. Paulo Lee Ho); 2) use of monophosphoryl lipid A of salmonella and the lipid A of leptospiras LPS as adjuvants in immunization with recombinant protein antigens of leptospiras (Coord. Elizabeth Angelica Rudder Martins); 3) evaluation of the immunogenic potential of Leptospira interrogans Serovar Copenhageni flagelins (Coord. Patricia Antonia Estimates Abreu); 4) characterization of gene expression of Leptospira during loss of virulence in vitro (Coord. Enéas de Carvalho); 5) molecular identification and characterization of genes involved in the response of the infectious agent Leptospira interrogans to oxidative stress (Coord. Renata Maria Augusto da Costa). (AU)
