Abstract

Based on the analysis of some music treatises and piano teaching methods which were published between 1750-1840 (especially the writings of authors such as C. P. E. Bach, Marpurg, Türk, Clementi and Czerny) this research aims to investigate the performance practices prevailing in that period, as well as its relationship to the aesthetic thought of the time. The main result of this research will be a translation of selected portions of the texts by Türk, Clementi and Czerny (not yet available in Portuguese), provided with introduction, critical notes and commentary, in order to contribute to the current debates on the so-called historically oriented interpretations in Brazil.
