Parallel processing with CUDA": the boundary element method and its application to the dynamic soil-structure interaction

Abstract

This research work aims to analyze problems dealing with dynamic soil-structure interaction using the numerical technique known as Boundary Element Method. Because it is a method that requires a large number of non-recursive floating point operations, it is naturally a good candidate for parallelization of the calculations which can be done with the use of Graphics Processing Units (GPU) which have shown good performance also in this application. One of the programming interfaces in such units, known as CUDA", was developed in order to allow the execution of an application with the CPU and GPU together. CUDA is the platform used in this work.
