Study of the in vitro and in vivo effects of fatty acids on mitochondrial morphology and fatty acid composition and the relationship of these factors to the control of energy producing [... ]

Abstract

Fatty acid regulation of energy producing pathways will be linked to morphological changes in mitochondrial with the aim to determine how control of tumour energy metabolism by fatty acids is related to morphology. Focus will be on how fatty acids are partitioned between oxidative and biosynthetic processes and whether carnitine palmitoyltransferase it is involved in this partitioning. Changes in fatty acid composition of cellular components will be related to changes in cellular and mitochondrial morphology and to CPT I activity and malonyl CoA sensitivity. (AU)
