Abstract

Project research in surgery of the digestive system, with equipment funded by electromyography FAEPEX no conflict of interest, to be held in the Liver Transplant Clinic - Gastroenterology / Unicamp and Hospital de Clinicas da Unicamp Surface electromyography is a safe and noninvasive procedure that can measure muscle activity and detect the decrease of this activity. In patients with liver disease, with limited lung expansion due to total impairment of diaphragmatic kinetics by increased abdominal size, can reduce lung capacity and hinder recovery and early extubation in postoperative abdominal surgery with Chevron incision. The muscle activity comparison can verify this difficulty in different populations, along with others respiratory evaluation methods, the difference being, when detected, could precede specific treatments and prevent some complications. One this treatments is transcutaneous electrical stimulation combined with respiratory exercise that has to work on the muscle activity that can guarantee the normal respiratory activity return more quickly. Thus, respiratory muscle evaluation in different populations both in the form of muscle activity mainly through surface electromyography, and check the strengths and volumes, can facilitate the realization of a protocol for muscle training more specific to the populations with greater needs.
