Performatic persona: alterity and experience in the work of Renato Cohen

Abstract

This book is a result of Ana Goldenstein Carvalhaes's master research (PGEHA-USP), advised by me, about the work of the encenateur Renato Cohen. He is the most important researcher on performance art in Brasil. This is the first publication about his work, and presents a critical perspective of his work after seven years of his death, completed on september 2010. Besides the historiography of his performances, papers and texts, the research focus on the notion of persona to configurate the criative process and construction of environment, after all, his own poiesys. Through his Work in Progress, he proposes a diferent quality of the performatic experience. That's the persona: the construction of the performer during the scene, in his many forms. Two works were analised to configurate this idea: "Imanência - Caixas do Ser", and "Gotham SP". They are very diferent works, that help to widen the senses of a person on scene in polifonic and plastic dimentions. Fundamental dispositives were discussed: the personal mitology, stranging effect (that creates ambiguity and ambivalence), the travessia, among others. The performatic persona is a fundamental key to experience the alterity in the contemporary scene and most of all, to point out Renato Cohen's own poiesys. (AU)
