Abstract

Stuttering is characterized by involuntary speech disruptions. The purpose of the research is to develop a randomized treatment clinical trial in order to verify the efficacy of SpeechEasy. The study will be characterized as Phase III, aiming to monitor possible adverse effects and to perform a between-treatment comparsion: SpeechEasy (GI) versus Traditional behavioral treatment (GII). Participants of the study will be adults, of both genders, in a population sample of at least 15 participants in each group. Alterations in the physiological manifestations - reduction in the speech disruption index - will be understood as a positive treatment effect. These alterations will be measured by behavioral speech tests, electrophysiological and self-assessment tests. The study analysis will have as a theoretical base the DIVA model. The study hypothesis is that there will be no difference between the two treatments. The normality of data distribution will be tested through the Komolgorov-Smirnov test. Appropriate statistical tests will be applied according to sample data distribution. The clinical trial aims to qualify the best treatment proposals, those that are safer and more effective, i.e. to determine scientific evidence that effectively promote clinical change. The basic concept is the well being of clients and the safety involved in the offered procedure. (AU)
