Abstract

Menorrhagia is a clinical manifestation, often painful, which affects women worldwide, directly interfering with quality of life, lead to a poor physical condition and social withdrawal. It is estimated that 1 in 5 women are affected, but its prevalence is higher in extreme of age, that is, close to menarche and during the menopause (1-2).The prevalence of abnormal uterine bleeding (UAB) in the general population is around 11% to 13%, fractions that increase with age, reaching about 24% of women aged between 36 and 40 years old (3).Causes of menorrhagia can vary from hormonal unbalances to organic structural changes, mainly characterized by uterine fibroids, adenomyosis and, by endometrial hyperplasia, reaching even the possibility of coexistence with uterine cancer.In view of this, the treatments are aimed at elucidating the diagnosis and control of bleeding, as well as dysmenorrhea, which according to the literature can be associated in up to 60% of patients with abnormal uterine bleeding (4).They are part of clinical management, for diagnosis, the careful anamnesis and directed to presence of uterine diseases known drugs that can lead to vaginal bleeding, hormonal disorders, such as those related to the thyroid, and a personal or family of disorders of the coagulation system.
