Viability study of port cath system epidural catheters in equidae

Abstract

The analgesic drugs when administered systemically, it could induces adverse effects. The epidural injection showed reduces the dose and improve effectiveness, once the drugs are injected beside the site of action. The implantation of the poth epidural catheter has been used to ease administration of multiple doses, in techniques of postoperative analgesia in human beings. Frequently used in oncology, the porth catheter system (portcath) provides security to procedures for blood sampling, continuous analgesia and administration of chemotherapeutics. In order to improve procedures and provide a route of application of analgesics in the epidural space of equine, it is proposed in this study evaluate the patency of the porth epidural catheter (portcath), for up to 90 days, with the intent to improve the analgesia in the chronic processes (AU)
