Abstract

In Hematology of birds there is no consensus regarding the use of anticoagulants, requiring the evaluation of different substances to indicate the most appropriate for each species. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the effect of heparin and EDTA on the blood profile of the Orinoco goose (Neochen jubata) of free-living and also seeks to evaluate the serum biochemical profile of these birds, as well as investigate the occurrence of Haemoproteus, Plasmodium and Babesia. Shall be collected by puncturing the ulnar vein superficial blood samples from 20 birds, with males and females from the region of Vale do Araguaia River, Goiás. Blood samples will be used to study the presence of molecular material of the genus hemoparasites: Haemoproteus, Plasmodium and Babesia in addition to assessing the effects of EDTA and heparin as anticoagulants. Will be conducted with the serum biochemical profile analysis. Ectoparasites collected will be stored in 70% ethanol for later morphological identification and PCR for detection of haemoparasites.
