Profile of cytokines in predicting bovine mastitis following antibiotic therapy

Abstract

Cytokines are polypeptides secreted by lymphocytes and various other body cells in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. Control the differentiation of various cell lines and are responsible for regulating the immune response. In the mammary gland is no different, as these have great importance in the regulation of defenses against a stimulus that can mobilize the immune response to take a Th1 or Th2 pattern. From the trend of cell signaling, disease progression could be delineated. The main cytokines considered markers of defense of the mammary gland are the interleukins (IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-10), tumor necrosis factor - alpha (TNF- ±) and interferon-gamma (IFN - ³). Therefore this project aims to evaluate the behavior of cytokines in mastitis, variations in levels after treatment, as well as the ability to demonstrate the clinical cure and prognosis of disease. To this end, 60 cows will be evaluated for the positive test strip cup and CMT, divided into three groups of 20 animals (T1, T2 and T3), as fallows: T1: receive treatment, systemic antibiotic (Enrofloxacin), T2: receive intramammary antibiotic (Cefquinome sulphate), T3: shall be subjected to treatment with the two principles (T1 and T2). Groups C1 and C2, respectively formed by animals negative for both tests (CMT and dark background) and negative for evidence of dark background and groups will be positive for CMT controls. Sample taken before and at the second, fifth and twelfth days after the end of treatment and subjected to bacteriological examination, sensitivity and cytokines and immunoglobulins to be performed by ELISA. Statistical analysis of data obtained in the evaluation of all components of milk will be made throught computerized statistical program MINITAB 16.0. (AU)
