Abstract

The present project proposal is a research roadmap to address the unique challenges of implementing a sustainable aviation biofuels industry in Brazil ("gap study"). The new jet biofuel requires to match A-1 jet fuel specification, being a "drop-in" fuel, to be sustainable, which means to present high GHG mitigation potential, low cost, high economic benefits, to present good logistics & deployment characteristics considering global use. The sustainable biofuel needs to -present good indicators (particularly low CO2) when compared with conventional kerosene, but also meet the requirements of aviation industry, towards Carbon Neutral Gases (CGN) by 2020 and 50% reduction in net CO2 emissions over 2005 levels. Also need to decrease cost gap with jet A-1. The methodology to be used in the present study is basically composed by a serir of workshops, visits and reports by specialists. The final result of this study will be used to organize a call for a FAPESP CEPID Program. The project is to be conducted in partnership with BOEING and EMBRAER. (AU)
