Abstract

This project aims to study micro-exon genes (MEGs) and its protein products that are located at the host parasite interface. We wil perform the heterologous expression of the main isoforms of PCMs (protein coded by micro-exon) to characterize their biophysical properties and to perform assays aiming to understand the role of these proteins. Double-hybrid assays will be performed to search for possible interaction between PCMs and proteins from human leukocytes. In addition, Bioinformatic analysis will compare the structure of MEGs in the three organisms from the Schistosoma genera that present a publicly avaliable genome sequence, the S. mansoni, S. japonicum and S. Haematobium, aiming to understand the evolution of this class of gene. (AU)
