Abstract

This proposal seeks funds for the technical visit of Dr. Jaakko Saastamoinen to UNESP and INPE in the period September 01 to October 01, 1999. During his visit, the interaction between a reacting coal particle and an acoustic field will be investigated. The work will be a continuation of that previously conducted by the author of this proposal on the interaction of an acoustic field with non reacting particles and liquid reacting particles. The difference now is that the theoretical development will include the combustion analysis for the solid fuel particles. It is expected with the proposed work to obtain an useful tool to foresee the effect of acoustic oscillations in the combustion of solid fuels. The main parameters to be investigated are: particle ignition, pyrolysis and burning times, and NOx and particulate emission rates. (AU)
